Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the C.C., WPK, vice-chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and vice-chairman of the C.C., WPK, and Pak Pong Ju, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the C.C., WPK, vice-chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK and premier of the Cabinet, guided the joint conference.

Present there were senior party and government officials, members of the C.C., WPK, leading party and administrative officials of the Cabinet, working people's organizations, ministries, national institutions, local party and power bodies, major industrial establishments and members of the armed forces organs.

The joint conference discussed the new strategic line on concentrating all efforts on socialist economic construction set forth at the April plenary meeting of the WPK Central Committee and agenda items on thoroughly implementing the important task for bringing about a revolutionary turn in the scientific and educational fields.

Pak Pong Ju analyzed in detail the present situation of the country's economy, science and education and made a report on the goals to be attained till the end of this year.

In his report on the first agenda item, he noted that the new strategic line on concentrating all efforts on socialist economic construction advanced by Kim Jong Un at the 3rd Plenary Meeting of the 7th C.C., WPK is a scientific and realistic line which most correctly reflects the lawful demand of the developing revolution and the aspiration of the people.

Noting that the fields duty-bound to take the lead in implementing the five-year strategy for national economic construction failed to make a breakthrough in the drive, thus hindering the advance of the major industrial sectors, he analyzed the faults and their causes.

He referred to the tasks facing each industrial sector and important units to carry out at any cost the goals of this year, the third year for implementing the 5-year strategy for national economic development, by putting primary efforts in the work for placing the pace-setting domain of the national economy, the field of basic industry, on a normal track, and prospectively to put the national economy on a higher Juche, modern, IT and scientific basis.

Pak Pong Ju in his report on the second agenda item called for bringing about a revolutionary turn in science and education true to the intention of the respected Supreme Leader in order to pave a broad avenue to building an economic power and turn the country into an education and talent power.
