Born as a son of a boatman, Kim Sok Chang experienced the bitter sorrow of a stateless people in the dark period of the Japanese imperialist colonial rule. After the country's liberation he joined the revolutionary army with his pledge to firmly defend the country liberated by President Kim Il Sung.

Under the special loving care of Kim Il Sung, he graduated from the then Pyongyang Institute and devotedly defended the Party and the leader at the vanguard in the periods of the Fatherland Liberation War and the socialist construction.

He exerted all efforts to the work for unearthing and ascertaining the data on the revolutionary history of the peerlessly great men after the discharge from military service.

Ryang Hyong Chan, born into a railway worker's family before the liberation, was given an ample opportunity to study under the care of President Kim Il Sung and made valuable scientific research successes conducive to the socialist economic construction.

He ensured the successful blasting of 2 million cubic meters of earth in Sunchon and 2.7 million cubic meters of earth in the project of Taegyedo Reclaimed Tideland by dint of science and technology in the 1970s and the 1980s.

He has left a patriotic mark as a scientist at every underground cutting face and site for great construction for the last more than 50 years.
