Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- The Nature Conservation Union of Korea and the Miranda Naturalists Trust of New Zealand made a joint survey of migratory birds in Sindo County, North Phyongan Province of the DPRK and confirmed that nearly 20,000 far-eastern curlews (Numenius madagascariensis) which are threatened with extinction worldwide make a stopover in the area. Therefore, the area was recognized to be of great international protective value. It was also confirmed through the survey that over 30,000 snipes and water-birds of 30-odd kinds make a stopover in the area. According to an official concerned, the Nature Conservation Union of Korea and the Miranda Naturalists Trust of New Zealand have made survey of the flyway of migratory birds, their numbers and life expectancy along the western coastal area of the DPRK since 2015. The survey has proved that many species of sub-obsolete and rare birds live in the western coastal areas of the DPRK, thanks to its policy of migratory bird protection. |
