Korean Folk Song "Yangsando"
Pyongyang, May 28 (KCNA) -- Folk song "Yangsando", well-known among Koreans, was recently registered as a national intangible heritage in the DPRK.

"Yangsando" is one of typical folk songs representing the northwestern area of Korea, including present South and North Phyongan and South and North Hwanghae provinces.

The word "Yangsan" is derived from Yangdok and Maengsan, names of localities in Korea.

The song sings in praise of the beautiful homeland through the lyrics depicting scenic beauties of Yangdok and Maengsan areas and Moran Hill, Pubyok Pavilion, Taedong Gate and others spots in Pyongyang, all of which can be seen along with the flow of the Taedong River.

Its melody preserves well the character of folk songs for the northwestern area of Korea, which is run through with gentle, beautiful, fluent, bright and vibrant feelings.

And its tune came to have its own independent name called Yangsando Tune in the process of having been applied to delightful and cheerful songs.

Today, Yangsando and other folk songs full of national emotion and love of the native land have been assimilated and developed to meet the aesthetic taste of the times, thanks to the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea.
