Non-smoking Campaign Encouraged in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 31 (KCNA) -- Non-smoking campaign has been encouraged in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The Tobacco Control Law of the DPRK, amended and supplemented in June Juche 105 (2016), enacted the principle of intensified no-smoking campaign and stipulates the tobacco control as one of the state policies.

The law urges the strict abidance by regulations in cultivation, production and sale of tobacco, prohibits any advertisement or indirect publicity for tobacco and calls for expanding non-smoking areas.

It also specifies detailed and strict administrative responsibility and penalty for violations of the law.

According to the law, supervisory institutions and control agencies have taken practical measures to tighten the public control over smoking.

The media also plays a big role in the non-smoking campaign by carrying articles and broadcasting programmes on the harmful effects of smoking.

Meanwhile, the standard questionnaire and inquiry methodology for the world adult poll on tobacco was applied to the domestic adult poll, which was carried out in 2017 in cooperation with the World Health Organization, to collect information possible to make an international comparison with the main tobacco-control indices.

The poll showed that many people are fully aware of the fact that smoking causes serious diseases and the number of non-smokers is on the steady increase.
