Kim Yong Nam Meets Russian President

Pyongyang, June 16 (KCNA) -- Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on a visit to Russia to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, met Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, president of the Russian Federation, at the Grand Kremlin Palace on June 14. He politely conveyed warm greetings and personal letter from Kim Jong Un, chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK, to President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Putin expressed deep thanks to Kim Jong Un for sending personal letter to him, and asked Kim Yong Nam to convey his most heartfelt greetings to Kim Jong Un. Saying he is glad that Kim Yong Nam came to Russia to attend the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Putin referred to the good and long-standing history between Russia and the DPRK marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. He said that he is pleased that the process of detente started and prospect of peace was opened on the Korean Peninsula, and highly appreciates it. Russia will as ever strive for peaceful settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue, he said, expressing the stand to develop the economic cooperation between the two countries. Kim Yong Nam noted that the respected Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un personally met the Russian foreign minister who visited the DPRK recently and gave a precious instruction for continuously developing the strategic and traditional DPRK-Russia relations in conformity with the mutual interests and the demand of the new era. He stressed the need to further expand the bilateral relations through activated high-ranking level visits and brisk exchange and cooperation in various fields this significant year greeting the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the DPRK-Russia diplomatic relations. The talk proceeded in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Present there were Sin Hong Chol, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, Kim Hyong Jun, DPRK ambassador to Russia, Sergei Lavrov, foreign minister of the Russian Federation, and Yuri Ushakov, presidential aide of Russia. |
