Gyula Thurmer, chairman of the Hungarian Workers' Party, was elected chairman of the committee.

It decided to give wide media publicity to the President's feats and hold political and cultural events such as a remembrance meeting, lecture and film show on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of his demise.
