New Species of Corylus Avellana Bred
Pyongyang, June 27 (KCNA) -- Researchers at the Central Botanical Garden in the DPRK bred new species of Corylus avellana, as part of the efforts to breed and spread good species of trees of economic value and suited to the climatic and soil conditions of the country.

The new species, called "Corylus avellana Taesong No.1", is bigger than Corylus heterophylla in the size of upper part and wider in the range of crown.

It bears big and fleshy hazelnuts and is 11 times higher than Corylus heterophylla in per-tree yield.

It can be cultivated even at low temperature to the extent of 28 degrees below zero. And its breeding coefficient can be raised by vertical layering.
