Rodong Sinmun Blasts Vain Ambition and Prejudice of S. Korean Authorities

Pyongyang, July 20 (KCNA) -- The south Korean authorities of late said on several occasions that they brought about a "great turning point of history" such as the north's participation in the Winter Olympics, the visits of high-level special envoy, south-north summits and the DPRK-U.S. summit out of common understanding that the north's nuclear issue should be settled on the basis of solid south Korea-U.S. alliance. This is misrepresentation of facts and shows that they are brazen-faced enough to admire themselves. They talked such nonsense that they created an atmosphere of the international support for the settlement of "the north's nuclear issue" through an array of diplomatic steps with neighboring countries. Not content with it, they went the lengths of making impudent remarks that unless the DPRK and the U.S. keep the promise they made before the international community, they "would severely be tried". Rodong Sinmun Friday says in a commentary that the severity of the situation lies in that it is the deliberate building up of public opinion pursuant to the south side's "state policy", not just the view of some media or scholars, and that the high-ranking authorities came out as key advocates. One is free to comment on things happening and express one's opinions but one-sided thought and prejudice would cause an unjust result and would be a crime of misrepresenting justice and truth, the commentary says, and goes on: The situation urges us to again shed light on and analyze the "theory of driver of the Korean peninsula", a theory serving as a foundation of the thinking of the south Korean authorities, ground of their speech and guarantee of their action. Everyone knows how there was the dispatch of teams with mission for reunification and peace that shook Phyongchang with the thunderous hurrah for reunification in the wake of the appeal made by the illustrious great man on the New Year's Day to make this year an eventful year of great turn to be specially recorded in the nation's history, an appeal that moved the earth and heaven. How was it possible for the world to see the two historic north-south summits in just 29 days that ushered in a new era of independent reunification, peace and prosperity and resulted in all the high-level talks and sub-sector talks and all the undertakings in Kaesong Industrial Zone and Mt Kumgang. The historic moment when there was the DPRK-U.S. summit in Singapore brought with it a great breakthrough toward another new era, the era of DPRK-U.S. cooperation, breaking away all of sudden their hostile relations. This stark fact clearly proves how abnormal the south Korean authorities are to come out with the "theory of driver of the Korean peninsula". The south Korean authorities cry out for implementing the Panmunjom declaration at negotiating talks with us. But they have not yet taken any practical measures for the fundamental improvement of the north-south relations, reading the face of their American masters, thereby leaving important issues between the north and the south permanently pending. It is a principle clear from the past history that south Korea fails to play the role of even an assistant, to say nothing of the "driver", as it is caught in the evil cycle in which it has to flatter the one only to see the other repelling and in which it has to see the other interfere after it submits to the one. To make useless "admonition", being seized by the absurd "theory of driver", may cause trouble to the peace process on the Korean peninsula and bring sad results of offering the dishonest forces the opportunity to fish in troubled waters. The south Korean authorities are wearing a veil of the improvement of the relations because of the public opinion but they fail to discard the improper way of thinking belonging to the era of confrontation. Tied by the chain of submission and confrontation created by the outdated and ruined conservative forces, the present south Korean authorities fail to make a great set-out in the new starting line of history. We closely follow the remarks and actions of the south Korean authorities. Sporadic confrontation words heard from authorities of the Unification Ministry are also taken note of. They must not run amuck at such an important time as now, being hell-bent on meeting their political interests and maintaining their face. They would be well advised to come to their senses, though belatedly, and not to follow the outsiders but to opt for the road of independent reunification and By Our Nation Itself, as wished by the people. Herein lies their future. |
