Know-how of Spotted-Pattern Porcelain, National Intangible Cultural Heritage
Pyongyang, July 25 (KCNA) -- The technical know-how of spotted-pattern porcelain is one of valuable cultural treasures that the Korean people had created in the period of Koryo (918-1392).

It is a special ceramic art to show the harmony of natural colors intact.

Spotted-pattern porcelain is shaped through the method of twisting several layers of pancake-shaped clays with different colors or other methods and then baked at a pottery kiln.

The spotted patterns have won worldwide appreciation for their formative and artistic delicacy, fantastic representation, free and perfect configuration and appearances like wave, wind and cloud.

The know-how has been carried forward by the family of Yu Kwan Jun, section chief of the North Hamgyong Provincial Fine Arts Studio.

Seven porcelains made by Yu and his sons were registered as national treasures and are on display at the Korean Art Gallery.

Recently, the know-how was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage.
