At that time, it had been less than two years after the birth of the DPRK, but it created the myth of war victory of the 20th century in the Fatherland Liberation War under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung.

The unique strategies, tactics and war methods set forth by the President were the key to the fact that the Korean People's Army (KPA) always took the initiative in the war to emerge ever-victorious, overwhelming the numerical and technological superiority of invaders.

The President put forward the line of shooting down enemy planes with small arms and issued an order in December Juche 39 (1950) to organize a number of aircraft-hunting teams at most KPA units.

As a result, nearly 3,000 enemy planes had been shot down in two years.

After witnessing an enemy plane shot down by an aircraft-hunting team equipped with small arms, a foreign correspondent said with admiration that it was a heroic epic deed which could be done only by the heroic Korean people and they had performed such miracles for the first time in the history of modern wars.

The President also advanced other unique strategies, tactics and war methods during the war to bring about miracles to be recorded in the history of modern wars. Among them are the immediate counteroffensive action all along the front, consecutive attacks and annihilation through encirclement, formation of the second front by regular army units behind the enemy lines, active positional defense, tunnel warfare and tank-hunting team movement.

Vladimir Tolstikov, the then Pravda correspondent in Korea, in his memoirs wrote that the Korean war was an eccentric confrontation between a huge army dreaming of dominating the world and a newborn individual state, but proved that even a smallest country can emerge powerful and defeat any formidable enemies when it is led by the peerlessly great man, outstanding leader.
