Pyongyang, July 28 (KCNA) -- Ryukhwa mortar is one of creations showing the wisdom and talents of the Korean nation. Its name was derived from fire flakes of six colors (red, yellow, green, blue, dark blue and purple or yellowish brown) emitted when firing stone ball at a high angle by dint of gunpowder. It was also called Roedung mortar as its firing sounded thundering, accompanying a big flash. The mortar consists of muzzle and powder chamber and was easy to carry and handle. It had been mass-produced in 1032 and from 1122 to 1127 to be sited at all strongholds across the country. According to a historical record, it was called Chongthong mortar during the Feudal Joson Dynasty (1392-1910). It was cast in copper in the period of Koryo (918-1392) and in iron during the Feudal Joson Dynasty. |
