S. Korean Bodies Call for Conclusion of Peace Treaty

Pyongyang, August 2 (KCNA) -- The Taejon headquarters of the South Side Committee for Implementing June 15 Joint Declaration and four religious organizations of south Korea held a press conference outside the Taejon City Office on July 26, where they demanded the adoption of a war-end declaration and conclusion of a peace treaty, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the conclusion of the armistice agreement, according to Tongil News, a south Korean internet newspaper.

The speakers said that the Koreans have lived in fear of war and pain of division for more than 70 years, hoping they would live in a peaceful world as early as possible.

They called for implementing the April 27 Panmunjom declaration by the concerted efforts of the north and the south.

A press release was made public at the conference.

It underlined the need to usher in a new era of peace. It noted that the April 27 Panmunjom declaration and the June 12 Singapore joint statement should be implemented in order to adopt a war-end declaration and conclude a peace treaty.

On the same day, the All-People Consultative Council for National Reconciliation released a statement demanding the conclusion of a peace treaty.
