|
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- Damage by high temperature and drought is on the steady increase in the DPRK where the temperature of over 35 degrees centigrade, 40 degrees to the maximum lingers on. Drought began inflicting damage on paddy rice, corn and other crops in rural areas of North and South Hwanghae, North and South Hamgyong and Ryanggang provinces and other parts of the country. The whole country turned out in the campaign to prevent the damage by high temperature and drought. In the agricultural sector, it has been pushed forward to repair and improve irrigation equipment, increase their operating rate to the full and secure water resources by building dammed pools, arranging waterways, digging water holes and wells and installing tube wells. And myriads of water carriers, tractors, trucks and other vehicles have been involved in irrigating croplands together with all the available watering equipment and devices like water pump, sprinkler and motor. After the start of the campaign, tens of thousands hectares of cropland have been drenched. All the farms across the country are giving priority to watering damage-stricken or damage-prone fields through furrow irrigation, sprinkling, saturated irrigation, etc. to suit their specific conditions, while making effective use of water resources and creating conditions favorable for the growth of crops. And they are taking such technical measures for preventing drought damage as fertilization with nutritive accelerants, foliage dressing and corn-leaf cutting. |
