Severest High Temperature Lasts in DPRK
Pyongyang, August 3 (KCNA) -- The abnormal hot weather that began from July 12 continues throughout the DPRK in August, recording the severest high temperature since meteorological observation in the country.

In this period, the countrywide daily average maximum temperature was 34.6 degrees centigrade on July 22 and 24, 35 degrees on July 31 and 35.9 degrees on August 1, exceeding the highest countrywide daily average maximum temperature (34 degrees) taken on July 26, Juche 86 (1997).

The highest daily maximum temperatures since meteorological observation have been recorded in many parts of the country with 40.7 degrees in Manpho City, 40.2 degrees in Junggang County and 40 degrees in Janggang County of Jagang Province and 40.1 degrees in Nyongwon County of South Phyongan Province, in particular.

Since July 25, the lowest temperature rose up to over 25 degrees centigrade in most parts of the country.

The countrywide daily average lowest temperature stood at 24.5 degrees on August 2. On the same day, the lowest daily temperature was 28.4 degrees centigrade in Pyongyang and 27-28.8 degrees in Sinuiju of North Phyongan Province, Phyongsong of South Phyongan Province, Sariwon of North Hwanghae Province, Haeju of South Hwanghae Province and other west coastal and central inland areas, the highest ones since meteorological observation.

According to a meteorologist, the high temperature is expected to last till August 5.

The high temperature is caused by the fact that the DPRK remains rarely long in a trough of the northeast Pacific high pressure, affected by the subtropical hot and humid air and the ground is heated by the strong solar radiation.
