Fumihiro Himori, chairman of the Japan Committee for Supporting the Independent and Peaceful Reunification of Korea, Kenki Nakamura, chairman of the Japan-Korea Society for Scientific and Educational Interchange, and Tokuji Yanagisawa, chief director of the Japan-Korea Cultural Interchange Association, were elected as co-chairmen of the preparatory committee.

An appeal was adopted at the ceremony.

It called for significantly celebrating the 70th birthday of the DPRK together with the Korean people waging a vigorous struggle for implementing the five-year strategy for national economic development and conducting more brisk activities to demand the peace and reunification of the Korean peninsula and the normalization of Japan-DPRK diplomatic relations.
