Pyongyang, August 9 (KCNA) -- The DPRK-U.S. summit meeting and talks in Singapore took place with the noble purpose for ending the hostile relations between the DPRK and the U.S. which lasted century after century and ensuring peace and stability of the Korean peninsula and the world, Rodong Sinmun says in a commentary Thursday. Now is the time for the DPRK and the U.S. to make a war-end declaration which is the requirement of the times, the commentary says, and goes on: To declare the war-end is the first process for ensuring peace and security not only in the Korean peninsula but also in the region and the world. If the military confrontation between the DPRK and the U.S. comes to a close with the publication of the war-end declaration, an atmosphere favorable for confidence-building will be provided. The DPRK government has long proposed declaring the war-end and replacing the Armistice Agreement with a peace accord as the most reasonable way for defusing tension and ensuring durable peace on the Korean peninsula. But, this has not yet come true. It shows that unilateral efforts cannot solve problems. Both sides should make efforts to settle the problems. The Singapore DPRK-U.S. joint statement called for making joint efforts to build permanent and durable peace-keeping mechanism on the Korean peninsula. The DPRK-U.S. relations should make a big step forward as required by a new phase of the development of history. |
