An inauguration ceremony was held in Seoul on August 2, with the attendance of reunification movement organizations.

Speakers there said the present situation urgently calls on all Koreans to firmly hold their hands with each other and pool their efforts in the nationwide joint struggle under the banner of national independence against foreign influence.

Though the historic April 27 Panmunjom declaration was adopted and the June 12 DPRK-U.S. joint statement published, permanent peace has not yet settled on the Korean peninsula, they said, adding:

The inter-Korean relations have taken their first step only.

Any act of threatening peace and obstructing the implementation of the Panmunjom declaration against the trend of the present times should be resolutely rejected.

An inaugural declaration was read out.

It said that the power being demonstrated in the spirit of By Our Nation Itself under the banner of independence, peace, reciprocity and equality is just the one which makes a turning point in the history of the Korean nation.

A grand meeting for achieving national independence and great unity to hasten national reunification is to be held to conduct a mass movement for helping all Koreans pool their efforts and successfully holding a joint national event and a great national meeting for reunification, it noted.

It called on the public to positively take part in the meeting in order to make it a successful public gathering.
