Pyongyang, August 29 (KCNA) -- There still remains the site of Anhak Palace of Koguryo (B.C. 277-A.D. 668), which gives a glimpse of high architecture and creative talents of the Korean nation, in Anhak-dong, Taesong District, Pyongyang City of the DPRK. In this regard, Prof. and Dr. Son Su Ho, director of the Archaeological Institute of the Academy of Social Sciences, told KCNA: The palace covered an area of 380,000 square meters to have been considered as the biggest among the already-known palaces of Korea and was very peculiar in its architectural style. Its main buildings were arranged in tiers from the south to the north, while auxiliary buildings standing on their both sides. And big decorative roof tiles, 2.1 meters high and 1.8 meter wide, and other building materials of great aesthetic value were applied to the gigantic main building. The Anhak Palace shows well the might of Koguryo known as a powerful state, which had existed for a thousand years, in the medieval history of Korea. |
