Pyongyang, August 31 (KCNA) -- Simwon Temple in Mt Pongrin, Sangyang-ri, Pakchon County, North Phyongan Province of the DPRK is one of the heritages which show the time-honored history and brilliant culture of the Korean nation. Preserved in the temple are Pogwang Hall and Chongphung and Hyangro (Sanghyang) pavilions. Pogwang Hall is the oldest main building with one-storied gable roof which considerably shows the architectural style of Koryo (918-1392). The colorfully painted hall has splendidly-decorated ceiling and five lattice doors with lotus, peony, Prunus mume, chrysanthemum and other floral fretworks. The temple serves as a precious cultural heritage significant in studying the architecture of Koryo. When walking round the temple in February Juche 92 (2003), Chairman Kim Jong Il said that the temple is a national treasure as precious historical relics like colorful paintings and elaborate mosaic works are conserved in their original state, and underscored the need to preserve and manage well the historical and cultural relics associated with the wisdom and talents of the Korean nation and intensify the education in them. Thanks to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on conservation of historical and cultural relics, 1 000 years-old Simwon Temple still retains its original state. |
