The college is an institution for training educators in charge of the education of the primary schoolchildren and those under school age in Pyongyang.

President Kim Il Sung founded the college on September 1, Juche 57 (1968) and clearly indicated the orientation and ways for the college.

Chairman Kim Jong Il paid deep attention to the work of the college, sent modern experimental apparatuses and zoological specimens and led it to make innovation in implementing the education policy of the Party.

For 50 years since its foundation, the college has developed into a teacher training organ taking a big share in the development of the country's education and a model unit in the building of an education power and a talent power with able educational sci-tech research forces, modern school buildings and facilities under the leadership and care of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il.
