On this occasion, the people in the DPRK are recollecting with deep emotion the immortal feats performed by President Kim Il Sung in deciding on the name of the country.

The name DPRK is associated with his ardent patriotism, outstanding foresightedness and passionate love for the people.

Just after Korea's liberation from Japan's colonial rule, he paid deep speculation to deciding on the name of the country in view of the character of the republic to be built in liberated Korea and its future to be prosperous.

At that time, he said that it was most rational to name the country the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in consideration of the division of Korea and the immediate tasks and fundamental object of the Korean revolution.

But, when he proposed naming the country the DPRK, some people commented in such ways as saying "too long name" and "others did not name their country like that".

After acquainting himself with the fact, the President said that we had to be the master in naming the country to meet the demands of our people, so there was no need to read others' face and stressed that the name DPRK clearly represents the independent character and genuinely democratic and popular character of our republic.

Like this, he firmly maintained the Juche-oriented and popular stand in deciding on the name of the country.

The name DPRK is the symbol of the dignity and glory of Kim Il Sung's and Kim Jong Il's Korea.
