Present at the opening ceremony were Ri Ryong Nam, vice-premier of the Cabinet, Minister of Culture Pak Chun Nam who is chairman of the festival organizing committee, officials concerned, creators and artistes of the film sector, working people in Pyongyang, delegations and delegates from China, Germany, Switzerland, France, Britain, Australia and Italy and international juries from the DPRK, Russia, China, Canada and Poland.

Invited there were foreign diplomatic envoys and representatives of international bodies, military attaches and staff members of foreign embassies here, foreign guests and overseas Koreans staying here.

Introduced at the opening ceremony were movies exhibited at the festival, to begin with.

Pak Chun Nam in an opening address expressed the belief that the festival would be successful in keeping with its noble ideal and the desire of the world progressive movie men before declaring the opening of the festival.

Vladimir Menshov, chairperson of the International Jury Committee said in a congratulatory speech that the DPRK is attaching importance to the cultural and art development, sincerely wishing the festival bigger success in the future, too.

Then, the festival prizes were introduced.

At the end of the ceremony the participants watched a Chinese feature film.

That day the organizing committee of the festival gave a reception at Okryu Restaurant for the participants in the festival.
