New Species of Mallow Bred
Pyongyang, September 21 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang Agricultural College of Kim Il Sung University in the DPRK bred new species of mallow (Malva verticillata, L.).

In this regard, Academician, Prof. and Dr. Jong Jong Su, winner of the title of People's Scientist, told KCNA:

The new mallow is higher than indigenous one in nutritive value and productivity. It yields 6 or 7 times more than indigenous one and can be harvested several times after sowing, approximately 140 tons per hectare.

It can be cultivated in every part of the country from early spring to late autumn.

Its protein content reaches 7.8 percent, 3 or 4 times higher than other vegetables like cabbage and spinach. And it contains 10 times more vitamins than other vegetables and is much higher in mineral components.

It is considered as a macrobiotic foodstuff as it is rich in vitamin E, an antioxidant.
