The university is the highest seat of science and technology education in the DPRK, founded and developed under the plan and care of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il. It is a meritorious university which has made great contributions to putting the national economy on a Juche, modern, IT and scientific basis.

President Kim Il Sung founded the county's first comprehensive university of technology on Sept. 27, Juche 37 (1948), while leading the cause of nation-building, and indicated the orientation and ways for its development in each period and every stage of the developing revolution. And he led the university to play the core role in solving the scientific and technological problems arising in socialist economic construction.

Chairman Kim Jong Il paid deep attention to the work of the university and visited it several times. He encouraged the university to achieve successes in the training of persons talented in science and technology and scientific researches and put it forward as the pioneer of the IT industrial revolution.

Over the past 70 years after its foundation, the university has made a positive contribution to the building of an economic giant and improving the people's standard of living while training a large number of competent backbones in science and technology.

A meeting took place on Wednesday to mark the anniversary.

It was attended by Pak Thae Song, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Ro Tu Chol, vice-premier of the Cabinet and chairman of the State Planning Commission, Kim Nung O, chairman of the Pyongyang City Committee of the WPK, officials of the field of education and science, officials concerned and teaching staff, students and graduates of the university.
