The world public commented that the summit served as a crucial engine for ending the era of the inter-Korean distrust, confrontation and war and bringing durable peace to the Korean peninsula.

China News Service on Sept. 21 carried an article titled "Inter-Korean relations go toward detente and Korean peninsula greets new chance for peace and development".

Noting the top leaders of the north and the south of Korea met three times in six months and such frequent meetings could not be seen in the past, the article said in some aspects this means that the inter-Korean exchange, reconciliation and cooperation has been put on an expressway.

CNN of the U.S. reported the news of the summit, saying the north and the south promised the "no-war era".

Media and experts, commenting on the "military agreement to implement Panmunjom declaration" adopted as an annexation of the Pyongyang Joint Declaration, assert that it serves as "a big stride in easing military tensions of the Korean peninsula", "a de facto nonaggression pact between the north and the south" and "practical war-end declaration".

The international community is acknowledging the big role of the summit in preserving regional peace, taking note of the fact that China, Russia and all other neighbor countries welcomed the summit.

Media of the U.S. and other western countries, too, commented that the Pyongyang summit brought about an "important agreement for restoring the DPRK-U.S. negotiations and a "new hope for making a breakthrough in the DPRK-U.S. relations".

The validity and significance of the Pyongyang summit and declaration, another landmark for peace and prosperity in the Korean peninsula, are being brought into bolder relief with the lapse of time.
