New Species of Evergreen Turfs Bred in DPRK

Pyongyang, October 3 (KCNA) -- The Turf Branch Institute under the State Academy of Sciences has bred new species of evergreen turfs. In this regard, Dr. Ko Song Jae, vice-director of the institute, told KCNA: The new species of turfs, called "Mangyong No.1", "Ryugyong No. 1" and "Ryugyong No. 2", keep verdure for 290-300 days. "Mangyong No. 1" is highly resistant to drought, disease and treading, simple in cultivation and strong in revitalization and propagates rapidly. "Ryugyong Nos. 1 and 2" have good ornamental effect and need less labor in their cultivation. The new species were applied to greening the Pyongyang Kim Jong Suk Textile Mill, Pyongyang International Airport and others, proving their superiority to other turfs in characteristic indices. |
