Moxibustion, National Intangible Cultural Heritage
Pyongyang, October 13 (KCNA) -- Moxibustion is one of thousands years-long Korean traditional therapies.

The Korean people treated illness with stone acupuncture and moxa in ancient times and further developed the moxibustion in the period of Koryo (918-1392).

Medical education was given in different parts of the country, including Sogyong (Pyongyang) in 930 and Kaegyong (Kaesong) in 987, with its main stress put on moxibustion and acupuncture.

Recorded in the first part of old book "Hyangyakjipsongbang" and book "Experiences in Acupuncture and Moxibustion" compiled in the period of the Feudal Joson Dynasty (1392-1910) are details about spots on the body important for acupuncture and moxibustion against different diseases.

Moxibustion has been widely encouraged in the DPRK thanks to the policies of the Workers' Party of Korea on public health and protection of national heritage.

It has clear effects in curing incurable diseases and chronic adult diseases. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in Juche 105 (2016).
