Second-stage Waterway Project Hastened in DPRK

Pyongyang, October 17 (KCNA) -- The second-stage waterway project has been pushed forward in South Hwanghae Province, the DPRK. Builders are carrying out the project at over 70 percent through a dynamic drive to attain the goals of the five-year strategy for national economic development. As of now, they have removed more than 3,470,000 cubic meters of earth, excavated over 529,000 cubic meters of bedrock and carried out the tunnel extension of 90,000 cubic meters and 45,000 cubic meters of concrete tamping to complete waterway tunnels, inverted siphons, spillways and various small-size structures in a hundred and tens of sections. Builders from Jagang Province finished their assignments like waterway tunnel and inverted siphon ahead of others. Builders from Pyongyang City have carried out over 80 percent of the reservoir construction. They are now speeding up the construction of closure embankment after completing the river cofferdam in a short span of time. Those from Nampho City have also pushed ahead with the construction for intake and water towers and observation platform at the final stage, while those from North Hamgyong Province stepping up the laying of inverted siphons of hundreds of meters. |
