Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- Among the historical remains and relics showing long history and culture of Korea are flower-shaped celadon plate and cylindrical celadon. In this regard, Jo Jong Chol, a researcher of the Korean Central History Museum, told KCNA: The relics, unearthed in the western architectural group of Manwoltae in Kaesong, are arousing the interest of historians. And a metal type was discovered in the plate at that time. The metal type was rusted, but its strokes are clear. And some parts of the metal type show signs of being stained with ink used in printing and its face is battered. The jaded green flower-shaped celadon plate figures the blossoming flower with ten petals. Seen in its backside is a circlet in center and three small signs of silica stanchions around it. The jaded green cylindrical celadon is patterned with peony and vine. It is believed to be a kind of decoration porcelain used in palaces or buildings. The flower-shaped celadon plate and cylindrical celadon are considered to be made in the first half of the 12th century for their elegant shapes, beautiful color and delicate patterns. They further enrich the material data showing that the Korean nation invented the metal type for the first time in the world, and are of great significance in studying Koryo ceramics. |
