National and Local Intangible Heritages Newly Registered in DPRK
Pyongyang, October 26 (KCNA) -- A work is brisk in the DPRK to register superior cultural heritages as national and local intangible heritages.

Some days ago, 11 objects were registered as national and local intangible heritages.

Those registered as national intangible heritages are Koryo medicinal fomentation, Koryo medicinal dietary cure, Kumgangsan and Kang Kam Chan legends belonging to the folklore, juvenile peasant dance, techniques of manufacturing Janggu, making of pickled shrimps and Jaranaegi (Koryo therapy).

Koryo medicinal fomentation and dietary cure are the traditional Koryo medical treatment that prevents and treats various kinds of diseases with natural medicinal substances and natural food.

The Kumgangsan legend of over one hundred and several ten parts is the folklore dealing with anti-invasion patriotic struggle, greediness and hypocrisy of feudal bureaucrats, good manners and customs and living conditions based on kaleidoscopic views of Mt Kumgang, a world famous mountain.

The making of pickled shrimps is a dietary custom of the west coastal area with long history.

Those registered as local intangible heritages are the Yongchae kimchi (leaf-mustard kimchi) making, silk weaving of Nyongbyon and the custom of using potato starch.

The Yongchae kimchi making is the method of making kimchi with leaf mustard growing in the northern part of the country including Kilju and Myongchon counties of North Hamgyong Province.

The silk weaving of Nyongbyon is showing the nation's high-tech silk weaving, which has been handed down from the ancient times.
