Custom of Korean Dressing, Intangible Cultural Heritage
Pyongyang, November 6 (KCNA) -- The 16th National Exhibition of Korean Dress was held some days ago, attracting the interests of visitors. Many Korean clothes suited to national character and modern aesthetic taste were on display at the exhibition.

The custom of Korean dressing which was created thousands of years ago is a precious heritage of the Korean nation.

The custom includes traditional technologies and methods of making men's, women's and children's dresses and shoes, and manners of dressing.

Korean clothes are the traditional national dress and some parts of the clothes have been developed into various types along with the development of the times.

In particular, the Korean Dress Society was organized in June Juche 91 (2002) and the custom of Korean dressing was registered as a national intangible cultural heritage in November 2013, which made Korean clothes making and dissemination and the related manners further contribute to keeping alive the national tradition.

The work is progressing apace to further develop the custom of Korean dressing. The Korean Dress Society, the Folklore Institute under the Academy of Social Sciences and other units strive to refine constituent elements and parts of Korean clothes according to the aesthetic taste of the times.

Meanwhile, they are developing the technique of making gorgeous wedding clothes and holiday clothes.

The national exhibition of Korean dress started as an annual event from 2003 serves as a good occasion in widely introducing the superiority of Korean clothes and arousing the social interest to them.
