Eternal Foundation for Development of Juche-based Education
Pyongyang, November 10 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has enforced the universal compulsory secondary education system for the first time in Asia.

Regarding the education of the rising generation as a key issue decisive of the destiny of the country and nation, President Kim Il Sung took measures to ensure the universal compulsory primary education system from August Juche 45 (1956) and the universal compulsory secondary education system from November 1958 in the country.

He also saw to it that a universal free education system at the state expense was enforced. As a result, tuition fees at primary schools was abolished from 1956 and the system of free education was enforced in general education from 1958.

And the universal nine-year compulsory technical education system was in force from April 1967 and the universal compulsory eleven-year education system from September 1975.

Chairman Kim Jong Il took steps to strengthen the education of gifted children for adding brilliance to the socialist system of education and improve the university education and secondary general education in keeping with the requirements of the era of IT industry.

Under his meticulous care, e-libraries of Kim Il Sung University and Kim Chaek University of Technology and Kim Won Gyun University of Music were newly built despite the difficult economic conditions of the country, and a firm guarantee was provided to make fresh turn in educational work.

Immortal feats of the great leaders who provided an eternal foundation for the development of Juche-based education are shining more brilliantly thanks to Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un, who made a new history of the universal 12-year compulsory education and is making all the people well versed in science and technology and developing the country into a talent power.
