Pyongyang, November 20 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea has recently made many successes in protecting intangible cultural heritages, the work for developing spiritual and cultural heritages created by Korean ancestors. After forming an administrative organization in charge of the work for protecting intangible cultural heritages in August Juche 101 (2012), non-permanent committees for the protection of national cultural heritages were organized in Pyongyang, provinces, cities (districts) and counties of the country to regularly conduct the work for discovering and assessing the intangible cultural heritages. As a result, more than 100 objects were registered as national and local intangible cultural heritages up to now. And research rooms for intangible heritages came into being at the Korean National Heritage Preservation Agency and national heritage preservation agencies in provinces to play a role as scientific research center and advisory organ. Meanwhile, social recognition of the work for protecting intangible cultural heritages is growing with the arrangement of the subject related with it at Kim Il Sung University, Kim Hyong Jik University of Education and other universities and information through mass media. After acceding to the international convention for the safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage in November 2008, the UNESCO workshop was held on several occasions and the exchange and cooperation with various countries have been strengthened. During the course, UNESCO registered folk song "Arirang" and the custom of making kimchi as typical intangible cultural heritages of humanity in 2014 and 2015 respectively. |
