World Atlas "Chonhado"
|
|
Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- "Chonhado" is the oldest world atlas in Korea. It was made in the mid-15th century. It is also called "Chonhayojido". The atlas consists of 13 folds and each fold is about 27 cm in length and 33 cm in width. Reduced scales are different according to sizes of regions marked there. Marked in the atlas are four directions--North, South, East and West--and positions of global lands and seas, characters of main rivers, islands, deserts, forests and others and names of countries. It shows seas and rivers with light blue, mountains with brown or dark blue, and capital cities of major countries and designations of over county-level places of Korea with signs and colors. This atlas is partly inaccurate in content due to the limitation of the times and immaturity of geographical knowledge, but it serves as the precious data in studying historical geography of some countries in the East, map making, xylography and mixing color at that time. |
