|
Pyongyang, November 26 (KCNA) -- Hye Cho was a traveler of Korea who toured several countries early in the 8th century. He came to India via Changan of China and Sri Lanka and then to Persia and the East Roman Empire. He also toured some countries in Central Asia and died in Changan of China on his way home. He walked more than 40 000 kilometers during his ten-year-long journey and wrote "Record of Travel to India", divided into three volumes. In his record of travels, he described in detail the socio-political system, natural and topographical conditions, economic life, custom, religion, names of countries and cities, political structure, natural resources, specialties, production method and life features of various countries. The record of travels was discovered at a cavern in Dunhuang area of China in 1910. The discovered book is the one to condense the three volumes into one. It was translated and published in some countries of Europe like France and Germany. "Record of Travel to India" serves not only as data showing the development level of itinerary literature of Korea at that time but also a world cultural heritage of significance in studying the politics, economy, culture, custom of Southwest and Central Asian countries. |
