Repeal of SL Is Task of Times and Demand of S. Koreans: Rodong Sinmun
Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Seventy years have elapsed since the fabrication of the "Security Law" in south Korea on Dec. 1, 1948. The SL, imitation of the "Public Order Act" dating back to the period of the Japanese imperialists' rule, has steadily been revised in a retrogressive way for the maintenance and strengthening of the dictatorial system whenever there was the heightened desire of the people for independence, democracy and reunification and whenever "ruling" crisis worsened in south Korea.

The SL is an unprecedented fascist law wantonly violating democracy and human rights and an anti-reunification law totally denying national reconciliation and unity with the north-south ties set as the ones of hostility, article of Rodong Sinmun says Sunday.

The repeal of the SL is the task of the times and the wish of the south Koreans, the article says, and continues:

There is wide-spread view in south Korea calling for "discussing the future of SL" and "repealing SL dating back to the confrontation era" in reflection of the present situation in which the north-south ties have entered the path of improvement.

However, the south Korean conservative forces including the "Liberal Korea Party" insist that "there can never be revision, to say nothing of repeal", absurdly claiming that SL is not a "stumbling block" in the improvement of the north-south ties and it is the "security device at least".

Only when the SL, leftover of the fascist dark era, the confrontation era, is repealed, is it possible to ensure democracy and human rights and to open up a broad avenue to the improvement of the north-south ties. This is a lesson taught by history and reality.

The repeal of SL is a requirement faced by the nation that can no longer be delayed and it is the strong desire of the south Koreans.
