Its participants from more than 40 sports teams including the April 25 Sports Team, the Amnokgang Sports Team, the Taesongsan Sports Team will compete in six main events including football, ice hockey, figure skating, and skiing, and 50 odd categories.

Attending the opening ceremony were Choe Hwi, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Sports Guidance Committee, Vice-Premier Ri Ryong Nam, Kim Jang San, secretary general of the DPRK Football Association, officials concerned, etc.

The contest will last until Dec. 28 in various cities and counties including Pyongyang, Samjiyon County and Kowon County.
