Pyongyang, December 6 (KCNA) -- Activities of the Korea Education Fund (KEF) are getting brisk in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Over the past 10-odd years since its foundation on January 26, Juche 94 (2005), the KEF has honestly implemented the support plans worked out to improve the educators' qualifications and the educational conditions and environment and ensure the supply of educational equipment and materials. In recent years it successfully conducted cooperative activities on hundreds of subjects to raise the social interest in educational work and improve the quality of education. In this regard, Ko Song Ryol, president of the KEF, told KCNA: The KEF has made contributions to the development of the country's educational work, through support for the building and repairing of schools, cooperation in education of foreign languages, promotion of children's health and supply of textbooks and reference books. In the last three years alone, the Fund gave a big helping hand to the construction and reconstruction of 11 schools including Ruchon Senior Middle School in Pongchon County, South Hwanghae Province. And it offered such educational equipment as audio-visual facilities for the study of foreign languages, computers, projectors and driving simulators and utensils for cooking practice to more than 100 universities, junior and senior middle schools and schools for orphans across the country. It also actualized the plans for supply of snacks to children and provided reference books on architecture, medicine and other fields to universities. It organized scores of in-service training workshops for educators and rendered a large amount of building materials, medicines and foods to flood-hit areas. In the course, the KEF fulfilled scores of assistance plans, approved proposals and closely cooperated with overseas compatriots and nongovernmental organizations, groups and supporters of various countries. It adopted agreements with New Korea Friends Humanitarian International, Heart for Korea of Sweden, Friends in Education of Canada, SPF of France, World Bread of the UK and International Bethel Vision Center to provide foundation for further developing cooperation. The KEF will as ever increase the ranks of supporters and intensify the cooperation with them. |
