Omar Lopez, chairman of the Venezuelan National Society for the Study of the Juche Idea, was elected as honorary chairman of the remembrance committee, and Felix Jesus Velasquez Castillo, general coordinator of the Federal Political Secretariat of the United Left Party of Venezuela and chairperson of the Venezuelan Solidarity Committee for Korea's Peace and Reunification, as chairman of the remembrance committee.

The committee comprises delegates of various political parties, bodies and institutions including the Communist Party, the Motherland Party for All and the Venezuela-Korea Friendship and Solidarity Association.

It decided to give wide publicity to Kim Jong Il's revolutionary career and exploits through media and hold various political and cultural events sending support and solidarity to the struggle of the Korean people advancing along the road of socialism on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of his demise.
