|
Pyongyang, December 14 (KCNA) -- Jongum Gate on Moran Hill in Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, was the south gate of North Fortress of the walled city of Pyongyang in the period of Koguryo Kingdom (B.C. 277-A.D. 668). Jongum Gate was built in the mid-sixth century. Later, it was repaired and rebuilt several times. Its gatehouse was burnt by bombing attack during the Korean War (1950-1953) and redintegrated in Juche 48 (1959). And its embankment with arch-shaped gateway was erected with well-trimmed granites. Thanks to the Workers' Party of Korea's policy for protecting national heritages, Jongum Gate is well preserved as precious cultural relics showing the superior architecture of the Korean nation and the patriotic spirit of the Korean people who fought bravely against foreign aggressors. |
