Pyongyang, December 18 (KCNA) -- S. Korean people of different social strata rejected the U.S. demand for the increase of upkeep for the GIs in south Korea, according to the south Korean internet newspaper Jaju Sibo on Dec. 11. 10 odd organizations including the People for Achieving Peace and Reunification, the Solidarity for Social Progress and the Bar Association for Democratic Society held actions in protest against the U.S. unreasonable demand in various parts of Seoul. At a press conference outside the U.S. embassy, the speakers termed the demand an outrageous act of seeking egoistic interests. Noting the same is the U.S. demand that south Korea should bear the cost for the deployment of the U.S. strategic assets in south Korea, they charged that the U.S. is going to make south Korea pay for the deployment although it committed itself to halting the joint military drills and not deploying its strategic assets in the Korean peninsula. At the end of the press conference, the protestors headed for the Defense Institute, where they kicked off a protest action demanding the decrease of upkeep for GIs. Members of the People's Party of south Korea also held a press conference outside the U.S. embassy, where they called for a drastic cut of the upkeep, criticizing the U.S. for pressurizing south Korea to pay twice for the upkeep. |
