The statement warmly congratulated the Korean people on the last year's brilliant successes in the struggle for carrying out the new strategic line set forth at the Third Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea under the guidance of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un and on the celebrations for the 70th founding anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

The statement extended firm support and solidarity to the struggle of the Korean people for defending peace in the Korean peninsula and the rest of the world.

It said that last year Kim Jong Un brought about a fresh turn in the development of north-south relations through three north-south summits and talks.

It noted that in his New Year Address he set forth practical proposals for making the Korean peninsula a durable and lasting peace zone.

Expressing the belief that all lines advanced by him are just, the statement hoped that the Korean people will achieve good successes in the struggle for improving the people's standard of living and ensuring peace and security on the Korean peninsula under the leadership of Kim Jong Un in 2019.
