Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un in his New Year Address underscored the need to put spurs to carrying out the goals of the five-year strategy for national economic development and clearly indicated the tasks for its realization, the editorial says, and goes on:

Putting spurs to hitting the goals of the five-year strategy for national economic development is a worthwhile struggle for creation to demonstrate before the world the inexhaustible self-development capability and potentiality for development of the DPRK, which remains undaunted by any challenge, by bringing about a sharp upturn in the overall national economy.

Last year the foundation of the self-supporting economy was further consolidated by the heroic struggle of all the people who turned out in the grand march for economic construction in hearty response to the decision of the historic April Plenary Meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

Self-reliance is a banner of struggle, driving force for a leap forward and a treasured sword for prosperity to be held fast to by all the people whatever the situation and circumstances. We have the power and foundation, our own strategy and way of creation to build a rosier future of socialism by our own efforts even in the face of all challenges of injustice and stern ordeals.

All the sectors of the national economy should dynamically conduct the general offensive for attaining the goals of the five-year strategy for national economic development, thus fully demonstrating before the world the DPRK's tremendous power and spirit of making a leap forward.

Our advance towards a powerful socialist state will be further accelerated as there are the wise leadership of the ever-victorious Workers' Party of Korea, the people with inexhaustible creative power, huge ranks of scientists and technicians trained by the Party and a firm foundation of mighty self-supporting economy.
