Vicious Moves Committed by Japanese Imperialists to Obliterate Korean Language
|
|
Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- Since their occupation of Korea, the Japanese imperialists had made desperate efforts to eliminate the Korean nation by obliterating its written and spoken language. They forced the Koreans to use the Japanese language as "mother tongue" in the early period of occupation. And through a "Korean teaching ordinance" retrogressively revised in February 1922, they excluded the subject on Korean language from the list of compulsory school subjects. In the latter half of the 1930s, the Japanese imperialists gave local government offices an instruction that Koreans should use the Japanese language without any condition, and made rules that Japanese should be used as "teaching language" at primary and secondary schools. Thus, the education in Korean was abolished and the education in Japanese was enforced forcibly at schools at all levels in Korea. The Japanese imperialists established a legal system to completely erase the Korean language from the education field by revising the "Korean teaching ordinance" for the worse again in March 1938 and turned schools into a training ground for making the Korean students "Japanese subjects". They also forced the Korean writers to write works in Japanese and publish magazines written in Japanese. They even did not sell train ticket and rice to Koreans refusing to use Japanese and put them in the list of "disturbing elements". Such moves were an unprecedented extra-large crime intended to completely obliterate the spirit of the Korean nation. |
