President Kim Il Sung set up a national music school with university educational system on March 1, Juche 38 (1949) and visited the school several times to wisely lead it to thoroughly establish Juche in the musical education and improve instruction and edification in conformity with the developing socialist construction.

Chairman Kim Jong Il provided the great programme for the Juche-oriented musical education including his work "On the Art of Music", saw to it that a modern new university building was erected on the bank of Taedong River and bestowed warm benevolence to the teaching staff and students of the university over again while sending high-quality musical instruments and teaching tools.

Recorded in the seventy year-long history covered by the university are the brilliant contributions to ushering in a heyday of the Juche-oriented art by producing a number of excellent music and art talents true to the policy of the Workers' Party of Korea on art education.

A meeting took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Thursday to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the university.
