Joint Statement Issued to Mark Centenary of March First Popular Uprising

Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- The Swiss Organizing Committee for the International Festival in Praise of the Great Persons of Mt Paektu, the Switzerland-Korea Committee and the Swiss Group for the Study of the Juche Idea released a joint statement on Feb. 23 ahead of the centenary of the March First Popular Uprising.

The statement said that the Korean people turned out in the all-people anti-Japanese resistance in protest against the Japanese imperialists' brutal colonial rule on Mar. 1, 1919.

It went on:

The participants in the uprising staged intense demonstrations, shouting such slogans as "Long live the independence of Korea!" and "The Japanese and Japanese army, get out of the country!"

The uprising left a lesson that victory cannot be won in the struggle when it is not led by an outstanding leader and the armed enemies should be countered with arms.

The anti-Japanese armed struggle organized and led by Generalissimo Kim Il Sung ended in victory and as a result, Korea's independence, the desire of the participants in the uprising, could come true.
