Streets of Pyongyang Afforested with Pine

Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- Streets of Pyongyang, the capital city of the DPRK, are being afforested with pine, national tree. According to data available, more than 2,000 pine trees have been planted in all streets of districts and counties including 10-odd central districts as of now. In this regard, Kim Un Gum, an official of the Ministry of Urban Management, told KCNA: The botanical name of pine instituted as national tree is Pinus densiflora, which has existed in the country since the birth of mankind, and this kind of pine is used in afforestation. District and county people's committees of the city worked out mock-up of afforestation in a peculiar way to suit their regional landscape. On the basis of the technical directive approved by the ministry, they planted well-shaped pine trees at around the Tower of the Juche Idea, Monument to Party Founding, Three-Revolution Exhibition House, Okryu Bridge and other monumental edifices as well as parks and pleasure grounds in this spring. Meanwhile, a campaign for planting pine trees is brisk in local areas. Pine is a sun plant and its crown takes various shapes like cloud, cowl and umbrella. From olden times, the Korean people have regarded the evergreen pine with strong scent as a symbol of discipline and spirit of the country. |
