Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- The title of socialist patriotic woods was awarded to units playing the leading role in afforestation and forest conservancy in January, amid a vigorous forest restoration campaign in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. The title was instituted in Juche 104 (2015) in order to give commendation to model units in the work of afforestation and forest conservancy for changing the looks of the land. The first winners of the title are the Ponghwa Chemical Factory, Unhung Co-op Farm in Thaechon County and Tansan Co-op Farm in Pakchon County, North Phyongan Province and the Wolryong Co-op Farm in Yonthan County, North Hwanghae Province. The Ponghwa Chemical Factory organized the work for planting trees on more than 40 hectares of areas, while taking care of over 200 hectares of forest. And it constructed five hectares of tree nursery where a fog spray irrigation system was introduced to produce nearly 200,000 saplings of 10-odd species. The Unhung Co-op Farm has planted many trees and flower shrubs in a regular way for the last four years from the beginning of the forest restoration campaign. Each work-team of the farm planted more than 1,000 fruit trees of good species to renew the looks of the farm and villages. And more than five fruit trees were planted at each home. The Tansan Co-op Farm worked out a far-sighted plan for afforestation. It built a greenhouse for saplings and established a gravity-fed irrigation system to produce many tree saplings. The Wolryong Co-op Farm has produced more than 100,000 saplings at its tree nursery every year to create new forests of tens of hectares. The Korean people are regarding the afforestation and forest conservancy as the greatest patriotic work for the future of the country. |
