In the Democratic People's Republic of Korea the women have creditably played the role of powerful force for the prosperity of the country, being loved as a flower of society, collective and family.

The people still remember women heroes including An Yong Ae, Jo Ok Hui, Thae Son Hui, Ri Sin Ja and Kil Hwak Sil who performed great feats in the Fatherland Liberation War and devoted their all to the prosperity and development of the country in the period of socialist construction.

The Korean women exercise with dignity their rights equal to the men's in the realms of socio-political life, thanks to such laws as the Socialist Labor law, the Law on Protection of Women's Rights and the Law on the Nursing and Upbringing of Children as well as the state and social policies for women which were adopted and enforced under the deep care of the Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government.

Since the first democratic election in November Juche 35 (1946), tens of thousands of women have been elected as deputies to the people's assemblies at all levels including the Supreme People's Assembly.

And a large number of women have won the titles of People's Scientist, Merited Scientist, candidate academician, professor and doctor while playing a major role in the development of the country's science and technology and education.

Working women in light industry, agriculture and other fields of national economy have performed miracles and feats at their work-sites.

Female artistes of the Moranbong Electronic Ensemble and other art troupes and such women sports heroes as Pak Yong Sun, Jong Song Ok and Kye Sun Hui fully displayed the honor of the DPRK to win the people's love.

Besides, in the country there are women who were awarded the title of Labor Hero for having given birth to lots of children, a "girl mother" who has brought up orphans and a woman doctor who had shown her sincerity for eight years to recover a girl's burned face.
